Development of a Cost-Based Design Model for Spread Footings in Cohesive Soils

The use of cost-effective construction design approaches is an emerging concept in the field sustainable environments. foundation for any infrastructure-related building entails three basic requirements, i.e., serviceability limit state (SLS), ultimate (ULS), and economics. Engineering economy coupled with safety are two main essentials a successful project. conventional based on hit trial methods to approach design. Additionally, requirements prioritized over economic aspect do not consider cost simultaneously. This study presents that considers costs while satisfying all technical shallow called optimization process which cost-based isolated charts were developed SPT N data. first their kind robust foundations can be used compare impact different bearing capacity models. Furthermore, framework quantitative applied factors values terms cost. results show Vesic’s equation yields higher capacities than Terzaghi Meyerhof. On other hand, theory offers 37.5% reduction as compared footing.
